Bhai literally means Brother in the Punjabi language.

In SatGurMat(Khalsa) culture Bhai is a Social & formal honour Granted to the SatGurMat Scholars, who churn out SatGurMat Litrature (SatGurBani)as ordained by SatGurBani.

Bhai GurDaas, the Number ONE Sikh of the Panth, graces the term with institutional santity.

The social status of Bhai honour is parallel to modren day honour of "TRUTHFULL JOURNALIST" having been granted to eminent Sikh Scholar Khushwant Singh.

It is a terms used to show respect and reverence for the person.
