ਗਿਆਨ੝ ਨ ਗਲੀਈ ਢੂਢੀਝ ਕਥਨਾ ਕਰੜਾ ਸਾਰ੝ ॥
Gi▫ĝn na galī▫ī dẖūdẖī▫ai kathnĝ karṛĝ sĝr.
Wisdom cannot be found through mere words. To explain it is as hard as iron.
ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਝ ਹੋਰ ਹਿਕਮਤਿ ਹ੝ਕਮ੝ ਖ੝ਆਰ੝ ॥੨॥
Karam milai ṯĝ pĝ▫ī▫ai hor hikmaṯ hukam kẖu▫ĝr. ॥2॥
When the Lord bestows His Grace, then alone it is received; other tricks and orders are useless. ॥2॥

ਪਉੜੀ ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਜੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਾ ਨਦਰੀ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰ੝ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Naḝar karahi je ĝpṇī ṯĝ naḝrī saṯgur pĝ▫i▫ĝ.
If the Merciful Lord shows His Mercy, then the True Guru is found.
ਝਹ੝ ਜੀਉ ਬਹ੝ਤੇ ਜਨਮ ਭਰੰਮਿਆ ਤਾ ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰਿ ਸਬਦ੝ ਸ੝ਣਾਇਆ ॥
Ėhu jī▫o bahuṯe janam bẖarammi▫ĝ ṯĝ saṯgur sabaḝ suṇĝ▫i▫ĝ.
This soul wandered through countless incarnations, until the True Guru instructed it in the Word of the Shabad.
ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰ ਜੇਵਡ੝ ਦਾਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਸਭਿ ਸ੝ਣਿਅਹ੝ ਲੋਕ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
Saṯgur jevad ḝĝṯĝ ko nahī sabẖ suṇi▫ahu lok sabĝ▫i▫ĝ.
There is no giver as great as the True Guru; hear this, all you people.
ਸਤਿਗ੝ਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਝ ਸਚ੝ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨ੝ਹ੝ਹੀ ਵਿਚਹ੝ ਆਪ੝ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
Saṯgur mili▫ai sacẖ pĝ▫i▫ĝ jinĥī vicẖahu ĝp gavĝ▫i▫ĝ.
Meeting the True Guru, the True Lord is found; He removes self-conceit from within,
ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚ੝ ਬ੝ਝਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
Jin sacẖo sacẖ bujẖĝ▫i▫ĝ. ॥4॥
and instructs us in the Truth of Truths. ॥4॥


ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥
Salok mėhlĝ 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:
ਘੜੀਆ ਸਭੇ ਗੋਪੀਆ ਪਹਰ ਕੰਨ੝ਹ੝ਹ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
Gẖaṛī▫ĝ sabẖe gopī▫ĝ pahar kanĥ gopĝl.
All the hours are the milk-maids, and the quarters of the day are the Krishnas.
ਗਹਣੇ ਪਉਣ੝ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰ੝ ਚੰਦ੝ ਸੂਰਜ੝ ਅਵਤਾਰ ॥
Gahṇe pa▫uṇ pĝṇī baisanṯar cẖanḝ sūraj avṯĝr.
The wind, water and fire are the ornaments; the sun and moon are the incarnations.
ਸਗਲੀ ਧਰਤੀ ਮਾਲ੝ ਧਨ੝ ਵਰਤਣਿ ਸਰਬ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥
Saglī ḝẖarṯī mĝl ḝẖan varṯaṇ sarab janjĝl.
All of the earth, property, wealth and articles are all entanglements.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮ੝ਸੈ ਗਿਆਨ ਵਿਹੂਣੀ ਖਾਇ ਗਇਆ ਜਮਕਾਲ੝ ॥੧॥
Nĝnak musai gi▫ĝn vihūṇī kẖĝ▫e ga▫i▫ĝ jamkĝl. ॥1॥
O Nanak, without divine knowledge, one is plundered, and devoured by the Messenger of Death. ॥1॥

ਮਃ ੧ ॥
Mėhlĝ 1.
First Mehl:
ਵਾਇਨਿ ਚੇਲੇ ਨਚਨਿ ਗ੝ਰ ॥
vĝ▫in cẖele nacẖan gur.
The disciples play the music, and the gurus dance.
ਪੈਰ ਹਲਾਇਨਿ ਫੇਰਨ੝ਹ੝ਹਿ ਸਿਰ ॥
Pair halĝ▫in ferniĥ sir.
They move their feet and roll their heads.
ਉਡਿ ਉਡਿ ਰਾਵਾ ਝਾਟੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
Ud ud rĝvĝ jẖĝtai pĝ▫e.
The dust flies and falls upon their hair.
ਵੇਖੈ ਲੋਕ੝ ਹਸੈ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
vekẖai lok hasai gẖar jĝ▫e.
Beholding them, the people laugh, and then go home.
ਰੋਟੀਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਪੂਰਹਿ ਤਾਲ ॥
Rotī▫ĝ kĝraṇ pūrėh ṯĝl.
They beat the drums for the sake of bread.
ਆਪ੝ ਪਛਾੜਹਿ ਧਰਤੀ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
Āp pacẖẖĝṛėh ḝẖarṯī nĝl.
They throw themselves upon the ground.
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਗੋਪੀਆ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਕਾਨ੝ਹ੝ਹ ॥
Gĝvan gopī▫ĝ gĝvan kĝnĥ.
They sing of the milk-maids, they sing of the Krishnas.
ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸੀਤਾ ਰਾਜੇ ਰਾਮ ॥
Gĝvan sīṯĝ rĝje rĝm.
They sing of Sitas, and Ramas and kings.
ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ੝ ਸਚ੝ ਨਾਮ੝ ॥
Nirbẖa▫o nirankĝr sacẖ nĝm.
The Lord is fearless and formless; His Name is True.
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਹਾਨ੝ ॥
Jĝ kĝ kī▫ĝ sagal jahĝn.
The entire universe is His Creation.
ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਮਿ ਚੜਾਉ ॥
Sevak sevėh karam cẖaṛĝ▫o.
Those servants, whose destiny is awakened, serve the Lord.
ਭਿੰਨੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਜਿਨ੝ਹ੝ਹਾ ਮਨਿ ਚਾਉ ॥
Bẖinnī raiṇ jinĥĝ man cẖĝ▫o.
The night of their lives is cool with dew; their minds are filled with love for the Lord.
ਸਿਖੀ ਸਿਖਿਆ ਗ੝ਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
Sikẖī sikẖi▫ĝ gur vīcẖĝr.
Contemplating the Guru, I have been taught these teachings;
ਨਦਰੀ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਘਾਝ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
Naḝrī karam lagẖĝ▫e pĝr.
granting His Grace, He carries His servants across.
ਕੋਲੂ ਚਰਖਾ ਚਕੀ ਚਕ੝ ॥
Kolū cẖarkẖĝ cẖakī cẖak.
The oil-press, the spinning wheel, the grinding stones, the potter's wheel,
ਥਲ ਵਾਰੋਲੇ ਬਹ੝ਤ੝ ਅਨੰਤ੝ ॥
Thal vĝrole bahuṯ ananṯ.
the numerous, countless whirlwinds in the desert,
ਲਾਟੂ ਮਾਧਾਣੀਆ ਅਨਗਾਹ ॥
Lĝtū mĝḝẖĝṇī▫ĝ angĝh.
the spinning tops, the churning sticks, the threshers,
ਪੰਖੀ ਭਉਦੀਆ ਲੈਨਿ ਨ ਸਾਹ ॥
Pankẖī bẖa▫uḝī▫ĝ lain na sĝh.
the breathless tumblings of the birds,
ਸੂਝ ਚਾੜਿ ਭਵਾਈਅਹਿ ਜੰਤ ॥
Sū▫ai cẖĝṛ bẖavĝ▫ī▫ah janṯ.
and the men moving round and round on spindles -
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਉਦਿਆ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਅੰਤ ॥
Nĝnak bẖa▫uḝi▫ĝ gaṇaṯ na anṯ.
O Nanak, the tumblers are countless and endless.
ਬੰਧਨ ਬੰਧਿ ਭਵਾਝ ਸੋਇ ॥
Banḝẖan banḝẖ bẖavĝ▫e so▫e.
The Lord binds us in bondage - so do we spin around.
ਪਇਝ ਕਿਰਤਿ ਨਚੈ ਸਭ੝ ਕੋਇ ॥
Pa▫i▫ai kiraṯ nacẖai sabẖ ko▫e.
According to their actions, so do all people dance.
ਨਚਿ ਨਚਿ ਹਸਹਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਸੇ ਰੋਇ ॥
Nacẖ nacẖ hasėh cẖalėh se ro▫e.
Those who dance and dance and laugh, shall weep on their ultimate departure.
ਉਡਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਸਿਧ ਨ ਹੋਹਿ ॥
Ud na jĝhī siḝẖ na hohi.
They do not fly to the heavens, nor do they become Siddhas.
ਨਚਣ੝ ਕ੝ਦਣ੝ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਚਾਉ ॥
Nacẖaṇ kuḝaṇ man kĝ cẖĝ▫o.
They dance and jump around on the urgings of their minds.
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨ੝ਹ੝ਹ ਮਨਿ ਭਉ ਤਿਨ੝ਹ੝ਹਾ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਉ ॥੨॥
Nĝnak jinĥ man bẖa▫o ṯinĥĝ man bẖĝ▫o. ॥2॥
O Nanak, those whose minds are filled with the Fear of God, have the love of God in their minds as well. ॥2॥

ਪਉੜੀ ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:
ਨਾਉ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ੝ ਹੈ ਨਾਇ ਲਇਝ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਜਾਈਝ ॥
Nĝ▫o ṯerĝ nirankĝr hai nĝ▫e la▫i▫ai narak na jĝ▫ī▫ai.
Your Name is the Fearless Lord; chanting Your Name, one does not have to go to hell.
ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡ੝ ਸਭ੝ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਦੇ ਖਾਜੈ ਆਖਿ ਗਵਾਈਝ ॥
Jī▫o pind sabẖ ṯis ḝĝ ḝe kẖĝjai ĝkẖ gavĝ▫ī▫ai.
Soul and body all belong to Him; asking Him to give us sustenance is a waste.
ਜੇ ਲੋੜਹਿ ਚੰਗਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਕਰਿ ਪ੝ੰਨਹ੝ ਨੀਚ੝ ਸਦਾਈਝ ॥
Je loṛėh cẖanga ĝpṇĝ kar punnhu nīcẖ saḝĝ▫ī▫ai.
If you yearn for goodness, then perform good deeds and feel humble.
ਜੇ ਜਰਵਾਣਾ ਪਰਹਰੈ ਜਰ੝ ਵੇਸ ਕਰੇਦੀ ਆਈਝ ॥
Je jarvĝṇĝ parharai jar ves kareḝī ĝ▫ī▫ai.
Even if you remove the signs of old age, old age shall still come in the guise of death.
ਕੋ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਭਰੀਝ ਪਾਈਝ ॥੫॥
Ko rahai na bẖarī▫ai pĝ▫ī▫ai. ॥5॥
No one remains here when the count of the breaths is full. ॥5॥


ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੧ ॥
Salok mėhlĝ 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:
ਮ੝ਸਲਮਾਨਾ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਰੀਅਤਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰ੝ ॥
Musalmĝnĝ sifaṯ sarī▫aṯ paṛ paṛ karahi bīcẖĝr.
The Muslims praise the Islamic law; they read and reflect upon it.
ਬੰਦੇ ਸੇ ਜਿ ਪਵਹਿ ਵਿਚਿ ਬੰਦੀ ਵੇਖਣ ਕਉ ਦੀਦਾਰ੝ ॥
Banḝe se jė pavėh vicẖ banḝī vekẖaṇ ka▫o ḝīḝĝr.
The Lord's bound servants are those who bind themselves to see the Lord's Vision.
ਹਿੰਦੂ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਨਿ ਦਰਸਨਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਅਪਾਰ੝ ॥
Hinḝū sĝlĝhī sĝlĝhan ḝarsan rūp apĝr.
The Hindus praise the Praiseworthy Lord; the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, His form is incomparable.
ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵਹਿ ਅਰਚਾ ਪੂਜਾ ਅਗਰ ਵਾਸ੝ ਬਹਕਾਰ੝ ॥
Ŧirath nĝvėh arcẖĝ pūjĝ agar vĝs bėhkĝr.
They bathe at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, making offerings of flowers, and burning incense before idols.
ਜੋਗੀ ਸ੝ੰਨਿ ਧਿਆਵਨ੝ਹ੝ਹਿ ਜੇਤੇ ਅਲਖ ਨਾਮ੝ ਕਰਤਾਰ੝ ॥
Jogī sunn ḝẖi▫ĝvniĥ jeṯe alakẖ nĝm karṯĝr.
The Yogis meditate on the absolute Lord there; they call the Creator the Unseen Lord.
