Bertrand Russell is attributed the following quote: "that if some lucky men survive the onslaught of the third world war of atomic and hydrogen bombs, then the Sikh religion will be the only means of guiding them." Russell was asked that he was talking about the third world war, but isn't this religion capable of guiding mankind before the third world war? In reply, Russell said, "Yes, it has the capability, but the Sikhs have not brought out in the broad daylight, the splendid doctrines of this religion which has come into existence for the benefit of the entire mankind. This is their greatest sin and the Sikhs cannot be freed of it." Where is the original reference to this? Which Journal, article or interview was this said by Bertrand Russell?

Bertrand Russell

Kiratsingh,

I am sorry I have not been able to find a source of this interview but for the time being, the following links show where this same quote appears on the net:

I will see if I can find the source. It may be a local newspaper. --Hari Singh

I have contacted Sardar Mohan Preet Singh who has confirmed that the quote was in the book "Excellence of Sikhism", which was distributed free by the Alag Shabad Yug Trust, Ludhiana, Punjab India.
You can download the book "Essentials of Sikhism" in pdf format from the link www.globalsikhstudies.net But this is a different book and does not appear to have the quotation. May be these were inserted in the printed version only or in the named book "Excellence of Sikhism". Obviously the two books are different - one is called "Excellence of Sikhism" and the other one "Essentials of Sikhism". I am awaiting a reply from Sardar Mohan Preet Singh to see if he can scan the page for us and I have also requested the book from Alag Shabad Yug Trust
I hope you find it useful --Hari Singh 17:18, 10 August 2006 (CDT) / updated 06:00, 5 April 2010 (UTC)
