Nir- (prefix) (Gurmukhi: ਨਿਰ) is a Punjabi word. When used as a prefix, it reverses the meaning of the word that follows. It works in the same way as the prefix Un- in English.

Nir (Gurmukhi: ਨਿਰ)

  1. reverse, opposite
    nirbho — (Gurmukhi: ਨਿਰਭਉ) means "to be fearless" while bho (Gurmukhi: ਭਉ) mean "fear"
    nirvair — (Gurmukhi: ਨਿਰਵੈਰ੝) means "without enemies" while vair (Gurmukhi: ਵੈਰ੝) mean "enmity"

  1. nirmal — (Gurmukhi: ਨਿਰਮਲ) means "pure, spotless, unsoiled" clean while mal (Gurmukhi: ਮਲ) means "Dirt, filth."
    niras — (Gurmukhi: ਨਿਰਾਸ) means "Hopeless, despaired, disappointed" while Aas (Gurmukhi: ਆਸ) means to have "hope, desire, wish"
