ਅਥ ਪਰਸਰਾਮ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕਥਨੰ ॥

Now begins the description of Parashuram Incarnation:

ਸ੝ਰੀ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੀ ਸਹਾਇ ॥

Let Sri Bhagauti Ji (The Primal Lord) be helpful.

ਚੌਪਈ ॥

CHAUPAI

ਪ੝ਨਿ ਕੇਤਕ ਦਿਨ ਭਝ ਬਿਤੀਤਾ ॥ ਛਤ੝ਰਨਿ ਸਕਲ ਧਰਾ ਕਹ੝ ਜੀਤਾ ॥

Then a long period of time elapsed and the Kshatriyas conquered all the earth.

ਅਧਿਕ ਜਗਤ ਮਹਿ ਊਚ ਜਨਾਯੋ ॥ ਬਾਸਵ ਬਲਿ ਕਹੂੰ ਲੈਨ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੧॥

They considered themselves as the most high and their strength became unlimited.1.

ਚੌਪਈ ॥

CHAUPAI

ਬਿਆਕਲ ਸਕਲ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਭਝ ॥ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਭ੝ ਬਾਸਵ ਪੈ ਗਝ ॥

Realising this all the gods were worried and went to Indra and said:

ਛੱਤ੝ਰੀ ਰੂਪ ਧਰੇ ਸਭ੝ ਅਸ੝ਰਨ ॥ ਆਵਤ ਕਹਾ ਭੂਪ ਤ੝ਮਰੇ ਮਨਿ ॥੨॥

All the demons have transformed themselves as Kshatriyas, O King ! Now tell us your view about it."2.

ਸਭ ਦੇਵਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥ ਛੀਰ ਸਮ੝ੰਦ੝ਰ ਕਹ੝ ਚਲੇ ਸ੝ਧਾਰਾ ॥

All the gods together reflected on this issued and went towards the milk-ocean.

ਕਾਲ ਪ੝ਰਖ ਕੀ ਕਰੀ ਬਡਾਈ ॥ ਇਮ ਆਗਿਆ ਤਹ ਤੇ ਤਿਨਿ ਆਈ ॥੩॥

There they eulogized KAL, the destroyer Lord and received the following message.3.

ਚੌਪਈ ॥

CHAUPAI

ਦਿਜ ਜਮਦਗਨਿ ਜਗਤ ਮੋ ਸੋਹਤ ॥ ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਕਰਤ ਅਘਨ ਓਘਨ ਹਤ ॥

The Destroyer Lord said, " A sage named Yamadagni abides on the earth, who always gets up to destroy the sins by his virtuous deeds.

ਤਹ ਤ੝ਮ ਧਰੋ ਬਿਸਨ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ ॥ ਹਨਹ੝ ਸੱਕ੝ਰ ਕੇ ਸਤ੝ਰ੝ ਸ੝ਧਾਰਾ ॥੪॥

O Vishnu, manifested yourself in his house and destroy the enemies of India."4.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ਪ੝ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਜਯੋ ਜਾਮਦਗਨੰ ਦਿਜੰ ਆਵਤਾਰੀ ॥ ਭਯੋ ਰੋਣਕਾ ਤੇ ਕਵਾਚੀ ਕ੝ਠਾਰੀ ॥

Hail, hail to the incarnation-like sage Yamadagni, through whose wife Renuka was born the wearer of armour and carrier of axe (that is Parashurama);

ਧਰਿਯੋ ਛਤ੝ਰੀਯਾਪਾਤ ਕੋ ਕਾਲ ਰੂਪੰ ॥ ਹਨਯੋ ਜਾਇ ਜਉਨੇ ਸਹੰਸਾਸਤ੝ਰ ਭੂਪੰ ॥੫॥

He manifested himself as death for the Kshatriyas and destroyed the king named Sahasrabadhu.5.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAA STNAZA

ਕਹਾ ਗੰਮ ਝਤੀ ਕਥਾ ਸਰਬ ਭਾਖਉ ॥ ਕਥਾ ਬ੝ਰਿਧ ਤੇ ਥੋਰੀਝ ਬਾਤ ਰਾਖਉ ॥

I have not the requisite wisdom to describe the whole story, therefore fearing lest it may not become voluminous, I say it very briefly:

ਭਰੇ ਗਰਬ ਛੱਤ੝ਰੀ ਨਰੇਸੰ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥ ਤਿਨੈ ਨਾਸ ਕੋ ਪਾਣ ਧਾਰਿਯੋ ਕ੝ਠਾਰੰ ॥੬॥

The Kshatriya king had been intoxicated with pride and in order to destroy them, Parashurama held up the axe in his hand.6.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਹ੝ਤੀ ਨੰਦਨੀ ਸਿੰਧ ਜਾਕੀ ਸ੝ਪ੝ੱਤ੝ਰੀ ॥ ਤਿਸੈ ਮਾਂਗ ਹਾਰਿਯੋ ਸਹੰਸਾਸਤ੝ਰ ਛੱਤ੝ਰੀ ॥

Nandini, the wish-fulfilling cow like the daughter of Yamadagni and the Kshatriya Sahasrabahu had got tired in begging it from the sage.

ਲੀਯੋ ਛੀਨ ਗਾਯੰ ਹਤਿਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਤਾਤੰ ॥ ਤਿਸੀ ਬੈਰ ਕੀਨੇ ਸਭੈ ਭੂਪ ਪਾਤੰ ॥੭॥

Ultimately, he snatched away the cow and killed Yamadagni and in order to wreak his vengeance, Parashurama destroyed all the Kshatriya kings.7.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਗਈ ਬਾਲ ਤਾਤੇ ਲੀਯੋ ਸੋਧ ਤਾਕੋ ॥ ਹਨਿਯੋ ਤਾਤ ਮੇਰੋ ਕਹੋ ਨਾਮ੝ ਵਾਕੋ ॥

Form the very childhood Parashurama had been quite inquisitive in his mind about the identity of the killer of his father;

ਸਹੰਸਾਸਤ੝ਰ ਭੂਪੰ ਸ੝ਣਿਯੋ ਸ੝ਰਉਨ ਨਾਮੰ ॥ ਗਹੇ ਸਸਤ੝ਰ ਅਸਤ੝ਰੰ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਤਉਨ ਠਾਮੰ ॥੮॥

And when he came to know that it was the king Sahasrabahu, he moved towards his place with his arms and weapons.8.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਕਹੋ ਰਾਜ ਮੇਰੋ ਹਨਿਯੋ ਤਾਤ ਕੈਸੇ ॥ ਅਬੈ ਜ੝ੱਧ੝ ਜੀਤੋ ਹਨੋ ਤੋਹਿ ਤੈਸੇ ॥

Parashurama said to the king, "O king; how hast thou killed my father? Now I want to wage war with you in order to kill you;

ਕਹਾ ਮੂੜ ਬੈਠੋ ਸ੝ ਅਸਤ੝ਰੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੋ ॥ ਚਲੋ ਭਾਜ ਨਾ ਤੋ ਸਭੈ ਸਸਤ੝ਰ ਡਾਰੋ ॥੯॥

He also said, "O fool, hold your weapons, otherwise forsaking them, run away from this place."9.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਸ੝ਣੇ ਬੋਲ ਬੰਕੇ ਭਰਿਯੋ ਭੂਪ ਕੋਪੰ ॥ ਉਠਿਯੋ ਰਾਜ ਸਰਦੂਲ ਲੈ ਪਾਣ ਧੋਪੰ ॥

Hearing these ironical words, the king was filled with fury and holding his weapons in his hands, got up like a lion.

ਹਠਿਯੋ ਖੇਤ ਖੂਨੀ ਦਿਜੰ ਖੇਤ੝ਰ ਹਾਯੋ ॥ ਚਹੇ ਆਜ ਹੀ ਜ੝ੱਧ ਮੋ ਸੋ ਮਚਾਯੋ ॥੧੦॥

He came to the arena of battle with determination, knowing that the Brahmin Parashurama was desirous of fighting with him on the same day.10.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਧਝ ਸੂਰ ਸਰਬੰ ਸ੝ਨੇ ਬੈਨ ਰਾਜੰ ॥ ਚੜਯੋ ਕ੝ਰ੝ਧ ਜ੝ਧੰ ਸ੝ਰਜੇ ਸਰਬ ਸਾਜੰ ॥

Hearing the furious words of the king, his warriors in great ire, decorating themselves (with their weapon) marched forward;

ਗਦਾ ਸੈਹਥੀ ਸੂਲ ਸੇਲੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੀ ॥ ਚਲੇ ਜ੝ੱਧ ਕਾਜੰ ਬਡੇ ਛੱਤ੝ਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧੧॥

Holding firmly their tridents, lances, maces etc., the great canopied kings moved forward for waging war.11.

ਨਰਾਜ ਛੰਦ ॥

NARAAJ STANZA

ਕ੝ਰਿਪਾਣ ਪਾਣ ਧਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥ ਚਲੇ ਬਲੀ ਪ੝ਕਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥

Holding their swords in their hands, the mighty warriors marched forward with loud shouts;

ਸ੝ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਭਾਖਹੀ ॥ ਸਰੋਘ ਸ੝ਰੋਣ ਚਾਖਹੀ ॥੧੨॥

They uttered "kill, kill" and their arrows were drinking blood.12.

ਨਰਾਜ ॥

NARAAJ STNAZA

ਸੰਜੋਇ ਸੈਹਥੀਨ ਲੈ ॥ ਚੜੇ ਸ੝ ਬੀਰ ਰੋਸ ਕੈ ॥

Wearing their armour and holding their daggers, the warriors in great ire moved forward.

ਚਟਾਕ ਚਾਬਕੰ ਉਠੇ ॥ ਸਹੰਸ੝ਰ ਸਾਇਕੰ ਬ੝ਠੇ ॥੧੩॥

The blows of whips horses produced knocking sounds and thousands of arrows flew out (from the bows).13.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ਛੰਦ ॥

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਭਝ ਝਕ ਠਉਰੇ ॥ ਸਭੈ ਸੂਰ ਦਉਰੇ ॥

All the warriors ran and gathered at one place.

ਲਯੋ ਘੇਰ ਰਾਮੰ ॥ ਘਟਾ ਸੂਰ ਸਯਾਮੰ ॥੧੪॥

And the besieged Parashurama, just as the clouds besiege the sun.14.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ਛੰਦ ॥

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਕਮਾਣੰ ਕੜੰਕੇ ॥ ਭਝ ਨਾਦ ਬੰਕੇ ॥

With the crackling of bows a queer sound was produced,

ਘਟਾ ਜਾਣਿ ਸਯਾਹੰ ॥ ਚੜਿਓ ਤਿਉ ਸਿਪਾਹੰ ॥੧੫॥

And the army swarmed like the dark clouds.15.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ਛੰਦ ॥

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਭਝ ਨਾਦ ਬੰਕੇ ॥ ਸ੝ ਸੇਲੰ ਧਮੰਕੇ ॥

With the clattering of the daggers, a queer sound was produced,

ਗਜਾ ਜੂਹ ਗੱਜੇ ॥ ਸ੝ਭੰ ਸੰਜ ਸੱਜੇ ॥੧੬॥

The elephants began to roar in groups and bedecked with armour, the warriors seemed impressive.16.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ਛੰਦ ॥

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਢੂਕੇ ॥ ਗਜੰ ਜੂਹ ਝੂਕੇ ॥

Gathering from all the four sides, the groups of elephants began a fight.

ਸਰੰ ਬਯੂਹ ਛੂਟੇ ॥ ਰਿਪੰ ਸੀਸ ਫੂਟੇ ॥੧੭॥

The volleys of arrows were shot and the heads of the kings were shattered. 17.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ॥

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਉਠੇ ਨਾਦ ਭਾਰੀ ॥ ਰਿਸੇ ਛੱਤ੝ਰ ਧਾਰੀ ॥

The frightful sound emanated and all the kings got infuriated.

ਘਿਰਿਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਸੈਨੰ ॥ ਸਿਵੰ ਜੇਮ ਮੈਨੰ ॥੧੮॥

Parashurama was besieged by the army like Shiva encircled by the forces of Cupid.18.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ॥

RASSAVAL STNAZA

ਰਣੰ ਰੰਗ ਰੱਤੇ ॥ ਤ੝ਰਸੇ ਤੇਜ ਤੱਤੇ ॥

All being absorbed and dyed with the dye of war, feared the glory of others.

ਉਠੀ ਸੈਣ ਧੂਰੰ ॥ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਗੈਣ ਪੂਰੰ ॥੧੯॥

So much dust arose by (the movement of the) army that the sky was filled with dust.19.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ॥

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਘਣੇ ਢੋਲ ਬੱਜੇ ॥ ਮਹਾਂ ਬੀਰ ਗੱਜੇ ॥

The drums resounded violently and the mighty warriors began to roar.

ਮਨੋ ਸਿੰਘ ਛ੝ੱਟੇ ॥ ਇਮੰ ਬੀਰ ਜ੝ੱਟੇ ॥੨੦॥

The warriors were fighting each other like the freely roaming lions.20.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ਛੰਦ ॥

RASAAVAL STNAZA

ਕਰੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਾਰੰ ॥ ਬਕੈ ਬਿਕਰਾਰੰ ॥

With the shouts of "kill, kill", the warriors were uttering dreadful words.

ਗਿਰੇ ਅੰਗ ਭੰਗੰ ॥ ਦਵੰ ਜਾਨ ਦੰਗੰ ॥੨੧॥

The chopped limbs of the warriors are falling and it appeared that there is fire on all the four sides.21.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ॥

RASAAVAL STNAZA

ਗਝ ਛੂਟ ਅਸਤ੝ਰੰ ॥ ਭਜੇ ਹ੝ਵੈ ਨ੝ਰਿਅਸਤ੝ਰੰ ॥

The weapons began to fall from the hands and the warriors began to run away empty-handed.

ਖਿਲੇਂ ਸਾਰ ਬਾਜੀ ॥ ਤ੝ਰੇ ਤ੝ੰਦ ਤਾਜੀ ॥੨੨॥

The horses were neighing and were running hither and thither with swiftness.22.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ਛੰਦ ॥

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਭ੝ਜਾ ਠੋਕ ਬੀਰੰ ॥ ਕਰੇ ਘਾਇ ਤੀਰੰ ॥

The warriors are wounding the enemy by showering their arrows; they were also patting their arms.

ਨੇਜੇ ਗੱਡ ਗਾਢੇ ॥ ਮਚੇ ਬੈਰ ਬਾਢੇ ॥੨੩॥

The warriors by planting their daggers, increasing their inimical intentions, are waging a terrible war. 23

ਰਸਾਵਲ ॥

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਘਣੰ ਘਾਇ ਪੇਲੇਂ ॥ ਮਨੋ ਫਾਗ ਖੇਲੇਂ ॥

Many wounds are being inflicted and the wounded warriors appear to be playing Holi;

ਕਰੇਂ ਬਾਣ ਬਰਖਾ ॥ ਭਝ ਜੀਤ ਕਰਖਾ ॥੨੪॥

Showering their arrows, all are desirous of the victory.24.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ॥

RASAAWAL STANZA

ਗਿਰੇ ਅੰਤ ਘੂਮੰ ॥ ਮਨੋ ਬ੝ਰਿੱਛ ਝੂਮੰ ॥ ਟ੝ਟੇ ਸਸਤ੝ਰ ਅਸਤ੝ਰੰ ॥ ਭਜੇ ਹ੝ਝ ਨ੝ਰਿਅਸਤ੝ਰੰ ॥੨੫॥

The warriors are roaming and falling like the swinging, after the breaking of their weapons and becoming trees armless, the warriors sped away.25.

ਰਸਾਵਲ ॥

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਜਿਤੇ ਸਤ੝ਰ੝ ਆਝ ॥ ਤਿਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਘਾਝ ॥ ਚਲੇ ਭਾਜ ਸਰਬੰ ॥ ਭਯੋ ਦੂਰ ਗਰਬੰ ॥੨੬॥

All the enemies who came in front of him, Parashurama killed them all. Ultimately all of them ran away and their pride was shattered.26.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਮਹਾਂ ਸਸਤ੝ਰ ਧਾਰੇ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਆਪ ਭੂਪੰ ॥ ਲਝ ਸਰਬ ਸੈਨਾ ਕੀਝ ਆਪ ਰੂਪੰ ॥

Wearing his important weapons, the king himself, taking the mighty warriors with him, marched forward to wage the war.

ਅਨੰਤ ਅਸਤ੝ਰ ਛੋਰੇ ਭਯੋ ਜ੝ੱਧ੝ ਮਾਨੰ ॥ ਪ੝ਰਭਾ ਕਾਲ ਮਾਨੋ ਸਭੈ ਰਸਮ ਭਾਨੰ ॥੨੭॥

Forsaking his innumerable weapons, he waged a terrible war. The king himself seemed like the rising sun at dawn.27.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਭ੝ਜਾ ਠੋਕਿ ਭੂਪੰ ਕੀਯੋ ਜ੝ੱਧ੝ ਝਸੇ ॥ ਮਨੋ ਬੀਰ ਬ੝ਰਿਤਰਾਸ੝ਰੇ ਇੰਦ੝ਰ ਜੈਸੇ॥

Patting his arms, the king firmly waged the war, like the war waged by Vrittasura with Indra;

ਸਭੈ ਕਾਟ ਰਾਮੰ ਕੀਯੋ ਬਾਂਹਿ ਹੀਨੰ ॥ ਹਤੀ ਸਰਬ ਸੈਨਾ ਭਯੋ ਗਰਬ ਛੀਨੰ ॥੨੮॥

Parashurama made him armless by chopping away all his arms, and shattered his pride by destroying all his army.28.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STNAZA

ਗਹਿਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਪਾਣੰ ਕ੝ਠਾਰੰ ਕਰਾਲੰ ॥ ਕਟੀ ਸ੝ੰਡ ਸੀ ਰਾਜਿ ਬਾਹੰ ਬਿਸਾਲੰ ॥

Parashurama held up his dreadful axe in his hand and chopped the arm of king like the trunk of the elephant.

ਭਝ ਅੰਗ ਭੰਗੰ ਕਰੰ ਕਾਲ ਹੀਣੰ ॥ ਗਯੋ ਗਰਬ ਸਰਬੰ ਭਈ ਸੈਣ ਛੀਣੰ ॥੨੯॥

In this way becoming limbless, the whole army of the king was destroyed and his ego was shattered.29.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STNAZA

ਰਹਿਯੋ ਅੰਤ ਖੇਤੰ ਅਚੇਤੰ ਨਰੇਸੰ ॥ ਬਚੇ ਬੀਰ ਜੇਤੇ ਗਝ ਭਾਜ ਦੇਸੰ ॥

Ultimatley, becoming unconscious the king fell down in the battlefield, and all his warriors, who remained alive, fled away to their own countries.

ਲਈ ਛੀਨ ਛਉਨੀ ਕਰੇ ਛੱਤ੝ਰ ਘਾਤੰ ॥ ਚਿਰੰਕਾਲ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੀ ਲੋਗ ਮਾਤੰ ॥੩੦॥

Parashurama seized his capital and destroyed the Kshatriyas and for a long time, the people worshipped him.30.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੝ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਸਹੰਸ੝ਰਬਾਹ ਬਧਹਿ ਸਮਾਪਤਮ ਸਤ੝ ॥

End of the description of the Killing of the King SAHASRABAHU in BACHITTAR NATAK.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ਪ੝ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STNAZA

ਲਈ ਛੀਨ ਛਉਨੀ ਕਰੇ ਬਿਪ ਭੂਪੰ ॥ ਹਰੀ ਫੇਰ ਛਤ੝ਰਿਨ ਦਿਜੰ ਜੀਤਿ ਜੂਪੰ ॥

After seizing the capital, Parashurama made a Brahmin the king, but again the Kshatriyas, conquering all the Brahmins, snatched their city.

ਦਿਜੰ ਆਰਤੰ ਤੀਰ ਰਾਮੰ ਪ੝ਕਾਰੰ ॥ ਚਲਿਯੋ ਰੋਸ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਰਾਮ ਲੀਨੇ ਕ੝ਠਾਰੰ ॥੩੧॥

The Brahmin, in great agony called Parashurama, who, holding his axe, moved with great fury.31.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਸ੝ਨਯੋ ਸਰਬ ਭੂਪੰ ਹਠੀ ਰਾਮ ਆਝ ॥ ਸਭੰ ਜ੝ੱਧ੝ ਕੋ ਸਸਤ੝ਰ ਅਸਤ੝ਰੰ ਬਨਾਝ ॥

When all the kings heard that taking a vow of killing Kshatriyas, the persistent Parashurama had arrived, then all of them prepared for war, taking all their weapons.

ਚੜੈ ਚਉਪ ਕੈਕੈ ਕੀਝ ਜ੝ੱਧ੝ ਝਸੇ ॥ ਮਨੋ ਰਾਮ ਸੋ ਰਾਵਣੰ ਲੰਕ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੩੨॥

In great ire, all of them came to wage the war like Rana and Ravana in Sri Lanka.32.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਲਗੇ ਸਸਤ੝ਰ ਅਸਤ੝ਰੰ ਲਖੇ ਰਾਮ ਅੰਗੰ ॥ ਗਹੇ ਬਾਣ ਪਾਣੰ ਕੀਝ ਸਤ੝ਰ੝ ਭੰਗੰ ॥

When Parashurama saw that he was being attacked with arms and weapons, then he took the arrows in hand and killed his enemies;
