ਅਥ ਬੈਰਾਹ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਕਥਨੰ ॥ अथ बैराह अवतार कथनं ॥ Now begins the description of the Boar Incarnation:

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ਪ੝ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥ भढ़जंग पढ़रयात छंद ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਦਯੋ ਬਾਂਟ ਮਦਿਯੰ ਅਮਦਿਯੰ ਭਗਵਾਨੰ ॥ ਗਝ ਠਾਮ ਠਾਮੰ ਸਭੈ ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨੰ ॥ दयो बांट मदियं अमदियं भगवानं ॥ गझ ठाम ठामं सभै देव दानं ॥ In this way, the god Vishnu distributed the honey and ambrosia; and all gods and demons went away to their places.

ਪ੝ਨਰ ਦ੝ਰੋਹ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਸ੝ ਆਪੰ ਮਝਾਰੰ ॥ ਭਜੇ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਦਈਤ ਜਿੱਤੇ ਜ੝ਝਾਰੰ ॥੧॥ पढ़नर दढ़रोह बढियो सढ़ आपं मझारं ॥ भजे देवता दईत जिढ़ते जढ़झारं ॥१॥ Again the enmity grew between both of them and the war was waged; in which the gods fled and could not withstand the demons.1.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਹਿਰਿਨਯੋ ਹਿਰੰਨਾਛਸੰ ਦੋਇ ਬੀਰੰ ॥ हिरिनयो हिरंनाछसं दोइ बीरं ॥ Hiranayaksha and Hiranayakashipu, both the demon brothers,

ਸਭੈ ਲੋਗ ਕੈ ਜੀਤ ਲੀਨੇ ਗਹੀਰੰ ॥ सभै लोग कै जीत लीने गहीरं ॥ Conquered the tresures of the worlds;

ਜਲੰ ਬਾ ਥਲੇਯੰ ਕੀਯੋ ਰਾਜ ਸਰਬੰ ॥ जलं बा थलेयं कीयो राज सरबं ॥ They ruled over all the places in water and on land;

ਭ੝ਜਾ ਦੇਖ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਢਿਯੋ ਤਾਹਿ ਗਰਬੰ ॥੨॥ भढ़जा देख भारी बढियो ताहि गरबं ॥२॥ And seeing their own great physical strength, their pride knew no bounds.2.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਚਹੈ ਜ੝ਧ ਮੋ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਆਨਿ ਕੋਊ ॥ चहै जढ़ध मो सो करे आनि कोऊ ॥ They wanted that some brave warriors may come forward to fight with them;

ਬਲੀ ਹੋਇ ਵਾ ਸੋ ਭਿਰੇ ਆਨਿ ਸੋਊ ॥ बली होइ वा सो भिरे आनि सोऊ ॥ But only he could march against them, who could be greatly stronger than them.

ਚੜਿਯੋ ਮੇਰ ਸ੝ਰਿੰਗੰ ਪਗੰ ਗ੝ਸਟ ਸੰਗੰ ॥ चड़ियो मेर सढ़रिंगं पगं गढ़सट संगं ॥ They climbed to the top of the Sumeru mountain and with the blows of their maces,

ਹਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਭੂਮੰ ਕੀਝ ਸਰਬ ਭੰਗੰ ॥੩॥ हरे बेद भूमं कीझ सरब भंगं ॥३॥ They took away the Vedas and the earth forcibly and caused the destruction of all natural principles.3.

ਧਸੀ ਭੂਮ ਬੇਧੰ ਰਹੀ ਹ੝ਵੈ ਪਤਾਰੰ धसी भूम बेधं रही हढ़वै पतारं They earth went deep into the nether-world;

ਧਰਿਯੋ ਬਿਸਨ ਤਉ ਦਾੜ ਗਾੜਾ ਵਤਾਰੰ ॥ धरियो बिसन तउ दाड़ गाड़ा वतारं ॥ Then Vishnu manifested himself in the form of a Boar of terrible and cruel teeth.

ਧਸਯੋ ਨੀਰ ਮਧੰ ਕੀਯੋ ਊਚ ਨਾਦੰ ॥ धसयो नीर मधं कीयो ऊच नादं ॥ He penetrated into water and raised a thunderous shout,

ਰਹੀ ਧੂਰਿ ਪੂਰੰ ਧ੝ਨੰ ਨਿਰਬਿਖਾਦੰ ॥੪॥ रही धूरि पूरं धढ़नं निरबिखादं ॥४॥ Which spread equally throughout the universe.4.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਬਜੇ ਡਾਕ ਡਉਰੂ ਦੋਊ ਬੀਰ ਜਾਗੇ ॥ बजे डाक डउरू दोऊ बीर जागे ॥ Hearing this terrible shout and the resounding of the trumpets, both the brave demons awakened;

ਸ੝ਣੇ ਨਾਦਿ ਬੰਕੇ ਮਹਾਂ ਭੀਰ ਭਾਗੇ ॥ सढ़णे नादि बंके महां भीर भागे ॥ Listening to their thundering voice, the cowards ran away;

ਝਿਮੀ ਤੇਗ ਤੇਜੰ ਸਰੋਸੰ ਪ੝ਰਹਾਰੰ ॥ झिमी तेग तेजं सरोसं पढ़रहारं ॥ The war began and the clattering of the glistening swords and the sound of the furious blows was heard;

ਖਿਵੀ ਦਾਮਨੀ ਜਾਣ੝ ਭਾਦੋਂ ਮਝਾਰੰ ॥੫॥ खिवी दामनी जाणढ़ भादों मझारं ॥५॥ The luster of the swords looked like the flash of lightning in the month of Bhadon.5.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਮ੝ਖੰ ਮ੝ੱਛ ਬੰਕੀ ਬਕੈ ਸੂਰਬੀਰੰ ॥ ਤੜੰਕਾਰ ਤੇਗੰ ਸੜੰਕਾਰ ਤੀਰੰ ॥ मढ़खं मढ़ढ़छ बंकी बकै सूरबीरं ॥ तड़ंकार तेगं सड़ंकार तीरं ॥ The warriors of winsome whiskers are shouting and the sounds of the blows of the swords and arrows are being heard;

ਧਮਕਾਰ ਸਾਗੰ ਖੜਕਾਰ ਖੱਗੰ ॥ ਟ੝ਟੇ ਟੂਕ ਟੋਪੰ ਉਠੇ ਨਾਲ ਅਗੰ ॥੬॥ धमकार सागं खड़कार खढ़गं ॥ टढ़टे टूक टोपं उठे नाल अगं ॥६॥ With the knocking and falling and the sparks are coming out from them.6.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਉਠੇ ਨਦ ਨਾਦੰ ਢਮਕਾਰ ਢੋਲੰ ॥ ਢਲੰਕਾਰ ਢਾਲੰ ਮ੝ਖੰ ਮਾਰ ਬੋਲੰ ॥ उठे नद नादं ढमकार ढोलं ॥ ढलंकार ढालं मढ़खं मार बोलं ॥ With the resounding of trumpets and knocking sound on the shields, the utterance of "kill kill" coming from the mouth is being heard;

ਖਹੇ ਖਗ ਖੂਨੀ ਖ੝ਲੇ ਬੀਰ ਖੇਤੰ ॥ ਨਚੇ ਕੰਧਿ ਹੀਣੰ ਕਮਧੰ ਨ੝ਰਿਚੇਤੰ ॥੭॥ खहे खग खूनी खढ़ले बीर खेतं ॥ नचे कंधि हीणं कमधं नढ़रिचेतं ॥७॥ The bloody daggers of the warriors have come out in the battlefield and the headless trunks are dancing in an unconscious state.7.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਭਰੇ ਜੋਗਣੀ ਪੱਤ੝ਰ ਚਉਸਠ ਚਾਰੀ ॥ ਨਚੀ ਖੋਲ ਸੀਸੰ ਬਕੀ ਬਿਕਰਾਰੀ ॥ भरे जोगणी पढ़तढ़र चउसठ चारी ॥ नची खोल सीसं बकी बिकरारी ॥ The sixty-four female evil spirit (Yoginis) have filled their bowls with blood;

ਹਸੈ ਭੂਤ ਪ੝ਰੇਤੰ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਕਰਾਲੰ ॥ ਬਜੇ ਡਾਕ ਡਉਰੂ ਕਰੂਰੰ ਕਰਾਲੰ ॥੮॥ हसै भूत पढ़रेतं महा बिकरालं ॥ बजे डाक डउरू करूरं करालं ॥८॥ And loosening their matted hair, they are raising their terrible sound, the most awful ghosts and fiends are laughing and the shrieking sound of the hideous vampires is being heard.8.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਪ੝ਰਹਾਰੰਤ ਮ੝ਸਟੰ ਕਰੈ ਪਾਵ ਘਾਤੰ ॥ ਮਨੋ ਸਿੰਘ ਸਿੰਘੰ ਡਹੇ ਗਜ ਮਾਤੰ ॥ पढ़रहारंत मढ़सटं करै पाव घातं ॥ मनो सिंघ सिंघं डहे गज मातं ॥ The warriors are giving the blows of their fists and feet in this way as if the thundering lions have furiously attacked one another;

ਛ੝ਟੀ ਈਸ ਤਾੜੀ ਡਗਿਯੋ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਧਿਆਨੰ ॥ ਭਜਯੋ ਚੰਦ੝ਰਮਾ ਕਾਂਪ ਭਾਨੰ ਮਧਯਾਨੰ ॥੯॥ छढ़टी ईस ताड़ी डगियो बढ़रहम धिआनं ॥ भजयो चंदढ़रमा कांप भानं मधयानं ॥९॥ Hearing the terrible sound of the war, the attention of gods Shiva and Brahma hath distracted; the moon also trembled and the noonday sun also fled in fear.9.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਜਲੇ ਬਾ ਥਲੇਯੰ ਥਲੰ ਤਥ ਨੀਰੰ ॥ ਕਿਧੋ ਸੰਧਿਯੰ ਬਾਣ ਰਘ੝ ਇੰਦ੝ਰ ਬੀਰੰ ॥ जले बा थलेयं थलं तथ नीरं ॥ किधो संधियं बाण रघढ़ इंदढ़र बीरं ॥ There was water everywhere upward and downward and in this atmosphere Vishnu took aim of his arrows on his targets;

ਕਰੈ ਦੈਤ ਆਘਾਤ ਮ੝ਸਟੰ ਪ੝ਰਹਾਰੰ ॥ ਮਨੋ ਚੋਟ ਬਾਹੈ ਘਰਿਯਾਰੀ ਘਰਿਯਾਰੰ ॥੧੦॥ करै दैत आघात मढ़सटं पढ़रहारं ॥ मनो चोट बाहै घरियारी घरियारं ॥१०॥ The demons were collectively giving terrible blows of their fists in the way, like a crocodile aiming his blows on another crocodile.10.

ਬਜੇ ਡੰਕ ਬੰਕੇ ਸ੝ ਕ੝ਰੂਰੰ ਕਰਾਰੇ ॥ ਮਨੋ ਗਜ ਜ੝ੱਟੇ ਦੰਤਾਰੇ ਦੰਤਾਰੇ ॥ बजे डंक बंके सढ़ कढ़रूरं करारे ॥ मनो गज जढ़ढ़टे दंतारे दंतारे ॥ The trumpets resounded and the mighty and terrible warriors fought with each other in this way, as if the elephants with long tusks are fighting with each other.

ਢਮੰਕਾਰ ਢੋਲੰ ਰਣੰਕੇ ਨਫੀਰੰ ॥ ਸੜਕਾਰ ਸਾਂਗੰ ਤੜਕਾਰ ਤੀਰੰ ॥੧੧॥ ढमंकार ढोलं रणंके नफीरं ॥ सड़कार सांगं तड़कार तीरं ॥११॥ The sound of the drums and horns was being heard and there was also the clattering of the daggers and the crackling of the arrows.11.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਦਿਨੰ ਅਸਟ ਜ੝ੱਧੰ ਭਯੋ ਅਸਟ ਰੈਣੰ ॥ ਡਗੀ ਭੂਮ ਸਰਬੰ ਉਠਿਯੋ ਕਾਂਪ ਗੈਣੰ ॥ दिनं असट जढ़ढ़धं भयो असट रैणं ॥ डगी भूम सरबं उठियो कांप गैणं ॥ The war was waged for eight days and eight nights, in which the earth and the sky trembled.

ਰਣੰ ਰੰਗ ਰੱਤੇ ਸਭੈ ਰੰਗ ਭੂਮੰ ॥ ਹਣਿਯੋ ਬਿਸਨ ਸੱਤ੝ਰੰ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਅੰਤਿ ਝੂਮੰ ॥੧੨॥ रणं रंग ढ़रते सभै रंग भूमं ॥ हणियो बिसन सढ़तढ़रं गिरियो अंति झूमं ॥१२॥ All the warriors appeared absorbed in warfare in the battle-field, and Vishnu caused the death and fall of the enemy.12.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT SRANZA

ਧਰੇ ਦਾੜ ਅਗ੝ਰੰ ਚਤ੝ਰ ਬੇਦ ਤਬੰ ॥ ਹਠੀ ਦ੝ਸਟਿ ਜਿੱਤੇ ਭਜੇ ਦੈਤ ਸਬੰ ॥ धरे दाड़ अगढ़रं चतढ़र बेद तबं ॥ हठी दढ़सटि जिढ़ते भजे दैत सबं ॥ Then he placed all the four Vedas on the protruding part of his teeth and caused the death and fall of the persistent inimical demons;

ਦਈ ਬ੝ਰਹਮ ਆਗਿਯਾ ਧਨ੝ਰ ਬੇਦ ਕੀਯੰ ॥ ਸਭੈ ਸੰਤਨੰ ਤਾਨ ਕੋ ਸ੝ਖ ਦੀਯੰ ॥੧੩॥ दई बढ़रहम आगिया धनढ़र बेद कीयं ॥ सभै संतनं तान को सढ़ख दीयं ॥१३॥ Vishnu commanded Brahma and he created the Dhanur-veda for the happiness of all the saints.13.

ਭ੝ਜੰਗ ॥ भढ़जंग ॥ BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਧਰਯੋ ਖਸਟਮੰ ਬਿਸਨ ਝਸਾਵਤਾਰੰ ॥ धरयो खसटमं बिसन झसावतारं ॥ In this way, the sixth partial incarnation of the Visnu manifested himself,

ਸਭੈ ਦ੝ਸਟ ਜਿਤੇ ਕੀਯੋ ਬੇਦ ਉਧਾਰੰ ॥ सभै दढ़सट जिते कीयो बेद उधारं ॥ Who destroyed the enemies and protected the Vedas;

ਥਟਿਯੋ ਧਰਮਰਾਜੰ ਜਿਤੇ ਦੇਵ ਸਰਬੰ ॥ थटियो धरमराजं जिते देव सरबं ॥ There was the victory of Dharma (righteousness) and the gods collectively were Victorious,

ਉਤਾਰਿਯੋ ਭਲੀਭਾਂਤ ਸੋਂ ਤਾਹਿ ਗਰਬੰ ॥੧੪॥ उतारियो भलीभांत सों ताहि गरबं ॥१४॥ And they caused to remove the pride of all in a right way.14.
