About the Foundation

Gurmat Studies Foundation was established in order to provide a resource for youth and adults to connect with Sikhism. A main goal of the foundation was to preach the teachings of Sikhism in the English language to close the generational gap between the youth and elders of the Sikh community. In the past several years, the Gurmat Studies Foundation has worked extensively within the worldwide Sikh community organizing camps, retreats with English katha, Gurbani kirtan, and demonstrations on Gurmat philosophy, Sikh history and lifestyle, Sikh martial arts, and Gurbani meanings.

Projects

Main projects of the Gurmat Studies Foundation have included the Guru Nanak Academy and the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara, located in Surrey, BC and established in September, 2003. In addition, sevadars of the Gurmat Studies Foundation have given speeches at interfaith conferences, conducted various gurmat camps and retreats, as well as English katha tours, and written educational materials on Sikh history.

The North American Sikh community held smagams and keertan darbars this May in rememberance and honour of the legacy of Bhai Parminder Singh Ji, founder of Gurmat Studies Foundation and Guru Nanak Academy, Bhai Charnjit Singh Ji, Ustaad of the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara, and Bibi Rena Kaur Ji, member of the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara and volunteer at Guru Nanak Academy. By the sweet will of God, these three humble and dedicated Gursikhs were chosen by Guru jee to be taken back to their permanent home in the shelter of the Guru's lotus feet on May 7 and May 8, 2004 due to a single-vehicle accident en-route to Edmonton, Alberta from Surrey, BC.

The Gurmat Studies Foundation, Guru Nanak Academy, and Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Gatka Akhara, are built on the inspiration of Naam, the legacy of the Guru's Sikhs, and the divine guidance of the Guru's teachings. With the Guru's blessings, these three organizations will work hard to make sure the parchar and seva that these gursikhs started continues to thrive.
