Ghazni

Ghazni (Persian: غزنى) is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan. It is in the east of the country. Its capital is Ghazni City. The province lies on the important Kabul to Kandahar road, and has historically functioned as an important trade center for sheep, wool and cloth, the city is famous for its Afgan sheep skin coats. Known as Ghazna in the ancient times the city is also located on the Ghazni River.

The son of Ghengiz Khan, Ogotai destroyed the city leaving only Mahmud of Ghazni's tomb and two huge columns at the entrance to the city that had reached its zenith under Mahmud's rule. In 1747 the city became part of the new kingdom of Afghanistan.
