Bhai Ishar Das (d 1563) was the brother of Guru Amar Das, the third Sikh Guru and the father of the Chief Academic of the Sikhs, Bhai Gurdas. Bhai Ishar Das was also the brother of Bhai Manak Chand, the father-in-law of Bibi Amro, the daughter of the second Sikh Guru, Guru Angad and uncle of Bhai Jasoo.

Bhai Ishar Das was from a Bhalla Khatri family was married to Mata Jivani. They had settled in Goindval soon after the town was founded in 1546 AD (1603 Bk). Bhai Gurdas, who was their only child was born in 1551 in Goindval, Punjab, India. Mata Jivani passed when he was barely three in 1554 and Bhai Ishar Das passed away in 1563 when Bhai Gurdas was only 12 years old.

Bhai Gurdas (1551- 23 September 16371) is a much honoured Sikh scholar, missionary, and literary master who is also respected for his Sikh way of life. He was a leading figure in Sikhism who enjoyed the company of Guru Arjan, the fifth Sikh Guru. He was the nephew of third Guru, Guru Amar Das. (see Guru family tree) Bhai Gurdas was a first cousin of Mata Bhani, mother of Guru Arjan Dev.

Bibi Amro was the daughter of Guru Angad, the second Sikh Guru. She was born in 1532 in the village of Khadur Sahib, District Amritsar. She received her early education and training directly from her parents Guru Angad Dev and Mata Khivi. Guru Angad spent a lot of time with his children. He taught them the Gurmukhi script that he had revised and simplified which is used in Guru Granth Sahib. When she came of age she was married to Bhai Jasoo son of Manak Chand of Basarke village.
