The fact that melanoma is skin cancer not bone cancer should be pointed out. If he was completely cured of all cancer, as he claims, it would give truth to the article if what ever he died of three years later was mentioned.
Many American evangelists have reported miracle healing with the person dying of the disease a few years even months later; for many of them this is a sham to produce personal fortunes. Originally the Buddhists sold notes in China and Japan to gain a seat in heaven or worldly success, this led to the advent of what is known in China as 'Hell money' which is burned today during Chinese funerals to buy a nice home in the heavens for ones ancestors. The early Muslim raids on the gold laden Hindu temples were done to get the wealth also gifted for heavenly favor or earthly advantages.
Many pray to God asking for wealth, ect. and many houses of worship are built with such aims. The Pir system of the Shias where heavenly favor are given by the Pir of some shrine is one of the things that Sunnis abhore about Shias substituting Martyrdom to gain quick rewards in Heaven, sans a long wait in the grave with its punishment (for sins) as promised in the Qur'an and Hadiths and a free ride to heaven for 70 odd relatives of the muslim martyr's relatives.
It seems that only when one gives in selfless service, expecting no reward as Nanak Guru and others espoused that true rewards are gained. Great houses of worship are only useful as centers to raise funds towards those ends. Unfortunately as the Sikhs learned early such funds can often be easily - miss used to support a wealthy 'priestly class'. Some current reports tell that the Imams and their relatives own much of the wealth of Iran today. The protestant rebellion was a response to the excesses of the money hungry Clergy dispensing passes to Heaven for wealth several centuries ago, such a revolution is not likely to come to Islam as the clergy (mullahs, ect) wrote in hundreds of years ago, that nothing was ever to change. I believe there are many deras working along those lines in Punjab today, n'est pas?
Adding the gentleman's age and cause of death would improve this article. Science has proven that prayer and religion have, along with pets and a loving family have produced miraculous cures. One famous book even touted laughter as being important in conquering cancer--all are gifts of God. I guess if we believe that death is God calling us home or giving us release from earthly reincarnations then even cancer or heart attacks are gifts of God, but that is hard for most of us to swallow.
