Srinagar is a city and a municipal board in Pauri Garhwal District in the Indian state of Uttaranchal. This beautiful place is situated at the banks of river alaknanda. This place is 3400 Feet above from the sea leval. The throne of this ploace was laid down by raja kanakpal in 14th century. He came from gujrat and setteled here. His son Ajaypal makes this place as capital of its kingdom.

History

In 1517 Guru nanak Dev jee travelling along Reetha Sahib, Nanak Mata, Nainital, Kotdwar, Dhori Nazimabad came at the bank of alaknanda rivers across the palace of Raja Ajaypal. Raja Ajaypal met him and starting knowing about the god. Guru nanak dev jee gave him the lesson of the god and teold him how to get the true god. There was a spiritual conversation between them. Gurudwara Charan Padka was made in the rememberance of Guru nanak but due to natural disaster the gurudwara destroyed.

In 1634 Guru Hargobind jee came to this place and chatted with Saadhu Samarth Das about the concepts of Miri and Piri, Grahisti and Shashtardhari. Guru jee thought him a wonderful lesson. Know the present city is bit far from that place

Demographics

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Srinagar had a population of 19,861. Males constitute 57% of the population and females 43%. Srinagar has an average literacy rate of 83%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 86%, and female literacy is 79%. In Srinagar, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.
