The people of Labana tribe are divided into 11 clans,[1] or Gotras: The Kundlas, Sandlas, Bhaarot, Bashak, Kochal, Kolach, Laslas, Kachap, Vashisht, Bishpl, and Altarays. These Gotras are divided into subclans called Alh (ਅੱਲ). Lobana people prefer their Alh names over their Gotra names as their surnames.[2]

The Labana Gotra names are derived from places, profession, ritual and prominent personalities; for example, the Multani Lobanas were named for Multan City when they came to the Punjab region during Nadir Shah's invasion of India in 1739.[1]
