Gyan: (Gurmukhi: ਗਿਆਨ s ) is a word in Punjabi which means 'knowledge' or 'wisdom'; and is used to refer to someone who is wise and is spiritually knowledgeable. The word Gyani which is used to refer to someone learned in the Sikh religion or knowledgeable in "Dharam" or "path of righteousness". The 'priest' in a Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship) is referred to as a "Giani" or "Gyani".


Agyan: (Gurmukhi: ਅਗਿਆਨ s  ) is the opposite of 'Gyan' and means 'lack of knowledge' or 'ignorance' or unwise about spiritual matters.

Gurbani

ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨ੝ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨਾ ਦੇਖ੝ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਭਾਇ ॥
Gi▫ĝn anjan bẖai bẖanjnĝ ḝekẖ niranjan bẖĝ▫e.
The ointment of spiritual wisdom is the destroyer of fear; through love, the Pure One is seen.

In this tuk (line of Gurbani) the Guru explains that spiritual knowledge and wisdom destroys fears and subsequently the 'fearless' person will be able to see the path to the Lord.
