Gurdwara Katana sahib is the location where Guru Gobind Singh spent a night here on his way to Alamgir with Muslim brothers Ghani Khan and Nabi Khan in about 1705. Read full details of this journey here.

After staying at the location where Gurdwara Ghani Khan Nabi Khan is situated, for 2 days and 2 nights, Guru Gobind Singh, along with [[Gani Khan, [[Nabi Khan, Bhai Daya Singh, Bhai Dharam Singh, Bhai Maan Singh went to Gurdwara Kirpan Bhet Sahib in a Palki, which is about 2 kms away from Gurdwara Ghani Khan Nabi Khan, going through Gurdwara Katana sahib via village Rampura Kanech went towards Alamgir.

Relevance of this shrine

This Gurdwara Sahib commonly know as Gurdwara Katana Sahib, is believed to have been visited by Guru Hargobind Ji during his journey through the Malwa country in 1631-34.

Guruji had 7 Guns and some horsemen. Guruji took rest for one night hence. He tied his horse with the Ber tree. Guru Gobind Singh Ji also visited the place while on his way to Dunanagar in 1705 from Machiwara.

It is believed that Guruji had his first meal after Machiwara here hence this place is referred to as Degsar. This gurdwara is beautifully planned and has large extracts of land. It is located along a canal and has beautiful view.

Sangrand and Prakash Utsav of tenth Guru are celebrated here.

Location

Gurdwara Degsar Sahib is situated in village Katana alongwith Sirhind Canal near Grand Trunk Road. It is 25 kms. from Ludhiana, and 5 kms. from Doraha.


During colonial rule the British had to divert their irrigation canal around the Gurdwara because of its religious sanctity.
