Gurudwara Ranjit Garh Sahib

General Sayyid Beg a Muslim who along with Alif Khan attacked Guru Gobind Singh on 16 Magh 1759 Bk/15 January 1703 as he was returning from Kurukshetra to Anandpur.

Raja Ajmer Chand of Kahlur, who bore hostility toward the Guru had promised the Mughal Generals riches if they would attack the Guru. The two Mughal forces intercepted the Guru and his Khalsa forces at this site where Gurdwara Ranjit Garh Sahib is now located. Things looked bad for the Sikhs that day, the Muslim forces were much larger and attacking the Sikhs from two directions they also had the advantage of surprise.

It was then that the unexpected happened, General Sayyid Beg coming face to face with the Guru, was so affected by his sight that he immediately changed sides.

Alif Khan was so chagrined by his colleague's behaviour, that he attacked with redoubled vigour, but his forces were repulsed.
