Dilawar Singh Babbar

Dilawar Singh Babbar was a serving police officer in Punjab Police, India at the time of his becoming a Human Bomber. He joined Babbar Khalsa International during his service in Punjab Police and volunteered to become a suicide bomber to eliminate Beant Singh, Chief Minister of Punjab. He assassinated Beant Singh by blowing up his bullet-proof Car on August 31,1995, at 5 p.m in Punjab and Haryana Civit Secretariat Chandigarh[1]. Beant Singh was made chief Minister of Punjab even though more than 90% of voters had boycotted the state elections held in the year 1992. He was widely held responsible by many Sikhs for ordering the kidnap, torture and death of many young, male Sikhs, in order to stamp out terrorism in Punjab. However, a large number of Sikhs were innocent and were the backlash of the CM's aggressive policy.

Dilawar Singh's mother's name is Bibi Surjit Kaur and father's name is Baba Harnek Singh and they live in Guru Nanak Nagar, Patiala, Punjab, India. His father was a government employee. His elder brother works for a private company.

His death anniversary functions are regularly held in India and abroad. The Khalsa Action Committee (KAC) an umbrella organization of several hardline Sikh organizations honoured father and mother of Dilawar Singh, Harnek Singh and Surjit Kaur, with the Shaheed Baba Deep Singh gold medal at a function in city of Amritsar. He was also given a title of "pride of the nation' [2] [3] [4]
