Chandi Charitar 2

Chandi Charitar 2, a splendid narration by Guru Gobind Singh, right after Ukati Bilas, present in Sri Dasam Granth Sahib. This composition was written at Anandpur Sahib.

The most magnificent part of poetry is "Ath CHandi Charitar Ustat Barnan" section, where Guru Sahib have told various attributes of Chandi. He cleared that Chandi is not a Human(lady) or not some deity but it is formless and is will power(Shakti or Hukam) of Parbrahm.

Chapters

The composition contains 262 Shalokhas. It is made as part of Bachitar Natak Granth.

• Chapter 1: ਇਤਿ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੝ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰੇ ਮਹਿਖਾਸ੝ਰ ਬਧਹ ਪ੝ਰਥਮ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤ੝ ਸ੝ਭਮ ਸਤ੝ ॥੧॥
• Chapter 2: ਇਤਿ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੝ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰੇ ਧੂਮ੝ਰਨੈਣ ਬਧਤ ਦ੝ਤੀਆ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤ੝ ਸ੝ਭਮ ਸਤ੝ ॥੨॥
• Chapter 3: ਇਤਿ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੝ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰੇ ਚੰਡ ਮ੝ੰਡ ਬਧਹ ਤ੝ਰਿਤੀਯੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤ੝ ਸ੝ਭਮ ਸਤ੝ ॥੩॥
• Chapter 4: ਇਤਿ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੝ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰੇ ਰਕਤ ਬੀਰਜ ਬਧਹ ਚਤ੝ਰਥ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤ੝ ਸ੝ਭਮ ਸਤ੝ ॥੪ ॥
• Chapter 5: ਇਤਿ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੝ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰੇ ਨਿਸ੝ੰਭ ਬਧਹ ਪੰਚਮੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤ੝ ਸ੝ਭਮ ਸਤ੝ ॥੫ ॥
• Chapter 6: ਇਤਿ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੝ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰੇ ਸ੝ੰਭ ਬਧਹ ਖਸਟਮੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤ੝ ਸ੝ਭਮ ਸਤ੝ ॥੬॥
• Chapter 7: ਇਤਿ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੝ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰੇ ਦੇਵੀ ਜੂ ਕੀ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਬਰਨਨੰ ਨਾਮ ਸਪਤਮੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤ੝ ਸ੝ਭਮ ਸਤ੝ ॥੭॥
• Chapter 8 : ਅਥ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰ ਉਸਤਤ ਬਰਨਨੰ ॥ਇਤਿ ਸ੝ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੝ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੝ਰ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਬਰਨਨੰ ਨਾਮ ਅਸਟਮੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤ੝ ਸ੝ਭਮ ਸਤ੝ ॥੮॥

It is oftet claimed by some authors that it is translation of Devi Bhagwat, which is not at all true. There is difference between Based Composition and Translation. Translation where is converting from one language to another where Based Composition means to take plot and make their own style to explain it, which makes this composition an independent narration. Though Chandi Charitar Ukati Bilas do mentioned Markandeya Puran, as it is written in Guru Sahib's own style but based on characters of Markandeya Puran, but there is no mention of Devi Bhagwat in this narration. There are 12 Chapters of Devi Bhagwat but this narration only have eight chapters.

This section clears sikh viewpoint of Chandi and also against ritualistic practices. The following are attributes of Chandi defined in this section :

• Parbrahmi : Feminine term for Parbrham, there is no sex of God.
• Aroopan: Formless
• Niroopan: Formless
• Achedan: Can't be peneterated
• Ajeyan: Can't be victor upon.
• Guri: Feminine term for Guru.
• Hari Si: alike Hari (God)
• Ananti: Immortal
• Shatruhanti: Killer of Evils
• Bhavani: Former of Worls.
• Chatur Bahi: Arm of Wisdom(Siyanap)
• Bidiya: Wisdom
• Nirankar: Formless
• Nityan: Eternal
