Amrit Pal Singh 'Amrit'

[Foreword by an International Student]

I have come to know Sardar Amrit Pal Singh 'Amrit' in recent years through various internet debates, discussions and long distance phone calls, during which time I come to learn many things about him, which I shall seek to share here with the reader.

As a fellow student once remarked, whilst he (Amrit Pal Singh 'Amrit') will always refer to himself as a student, he is in fact a teacher of many students. I am one of the lucky few to have had the chance to benefit from his wealth of knowledge covering areas diverse as Gurmat, music, poetry, Indian history, religious traditions and Languages, despite our physical distance.

Although, his writings can be found in a number of published Punjabi books in India and in newspaper columns, I came to discover his gems of wisdom, through this website and his contributions to a number of online forums, namely www.SikhAwareness.com.

As a trained musician (initially under the guidance of his late mother Sardarni Sahiba Surjit Kaur and later under the tutelage of Ustad Sri O P Gupta), Amrit Pal Singh 'Amrit' is a superb vocalist and has inspired many in his local classes to take up Gurmat Sangeet in addition to holding Gatka and sports classes.

What many people are often unaware of is his academic background beyond religious spheres, having post-graduated with M.A. (Punjabi), he also have a certificate in draughtsman (civil), from Dehradun (in Uttranchal State of India). Beyond this, there is one more thing that Amrit Pal Singh 'Amrit' has in abundance and that is a terrific sense of humour! It is this down to earth quality that makes learning from him a most enjoyable and informative experience and I, as I am sure many others, look forward to the continuing expansion of this website and other published works of Sardar Sahib has he progresses with his numerous projects.

Wishing him the best with all his current and future endeavours in the ocean that is Gurmat.
