It took 239 years from 1469 to 1708 for the religion of Sikhi or Sikhism to be established. The Sikh faith was established by ten Gurus or spiritual teachers or masters, over this period from 1469, when the founder Guru, Guru Nanak was born to 1708, when the tenth human Guru, Guru Gobind Singh left this physical world - that is a period of 239 years.

These ten spiritual teachers were enlightened souls whose main purpose in life was the spiritual, ethical and moral well-being of the masses. By setting an exceptional example of how to live a holy and worthy life through the reciting of holy hymns called Shabads; living in constant remembrance of the Supreme Creator and unfolding upright righteous principle of life. The Gurus taught the people of India and beyond, to live spiritually fulfilling lives with dignity freedom and honour.
